Ok, so what is this doesnt meet minimum quality standards thing.

Well it means that your work is not yet good enough too pass the approvals.
What can you do? Well for starters, you can read this walkthrough and hope that it will help you improve.

    Contents:

    1. Perspective
    2. Anatomy and Proportions
    3. Hair
    4. Clothing
    5. Lineart
    6. Coloring
    7. Tips and final words

    1.Perspective

Well the first and probably the biggest problem everyone face, is the perspective. Having a good knowledge of perspective can help you give depth to you your works and they wont look so flat and will also have better proportions.

It works like this, the more far away an object is, the smaller it looks and the closer object is the bigger it looks too.

You can practice perspective by drawing a line that would represent a horizont and marking the center of it, now draw straight lines towards you. It should look something like this

This is how you get simple but accurate objects, the more complex your object is, the more lines it requires, I suggest using more than one color because you can get mixed up in your own lines.

This not only works for architecture but for every other object like people, think about your characters as complex geometric forms, every body part as a box

It is always helpful to draw a perspective box and than draw the character inside

My advice would be to plan your image in top/side/front view before doing it in perspective view, this helps you to get a better idea of what you are doing

Theres also all kinds of perspective emulation types in drawings. For example the first cube could be a regular perspective object or a small object. The second cube is very big or closed up. And the third cube has the fish eye effect, usually its a special lens used in photography.

Well thats it for perspective, cant think of anything more to tell you at the moment

Once you get a hang of the perspective, you will be able to draw images without the perspective lines.

    here's a few pics fixed by 2chan @ /ic

The next thing you will need too know is anatomy, proportions and how things work.

    2.Anatomy and Proportions

It is important to know most of the muscles and even bones if you want to draw correct figures.

Bones are the base frame of the human body, muscles are attached to the bones are for the purpose of moving them, its a sort of cooperation between muscles and bones that neither of them could be without. Muscles couldnt make the body stand or do anything, without bones, and bones couldnt move without muscles or hold together in one skeleton for that mater. But enough with the obvious.

Now to know what muscles goes where, you need to know the positions and of the bones.

It is also important to know that because not all bones are hidden inside the body, some of the bones are visible on the outside too, like the collar bones for example. I marked those kind of bones with red.

Its not that complicated as it may sound actually.

Anyway, when drawing a figure, drawing the skeleton first can really be helpful. Heres an example.

But actually you dont need to accurately draw them, you can just draw simple lines representing bones.

    ------> ------>

Now, how does the muscles work? This is probably obvious too but muscles retract pulling both ends that they are attached too close together.

Every part in the body works the same way. Now there are people out there, that wonder, what are those muscles in the second part of your arm for. Well LOL those are for moving your fingers. They also make the two bones in your ram to revolve around each other, twist your arm.

Well anyway, most of the animals like cats, dogs, horses, humans, birds, dinosaurs and even Chuck Norris, share the same anatomy, all the same bones and muscles can be found in every living creature, so knowing human anatomy, automatically enables you, to draw all kinds of other animals correctly too, the only difference is in the shapes and proportions.

Now about the proportions, well the most common mistakes people make, is drawing the arms too short. Arms should end up where legs begin.

Also the hands are usually too small, if you put your palm to your face, you will notice that your hand cover all of your face, when drawing a character, make sure that his/her hands are as big as the face.

    Same goes for the feet.

When drawing a female, always make sure that the hips are wide enough and the shoulders arent any wider than the hips.

You can even make them wider than the shoulders for additional hotness, what I usually do XD

When drawing hands, keep this in mind.

And heres how the head should look like, it kinda resembles an egg.

I cant say much about the feet, Im having trouble with them myself but I think it should go something like this.

Well thats it for the anatomy and proportions. you should google for tutorials and more detailed information about anatomy and stuff because I only covered a fraction of it. Heres some stuff from 2chan

    next one is the hair

    3.Hair

well I dont have much to say about hair, only this.

The regions that hair grows from are marked red

The type of hair is totally up to you
Heres a few common types of hair.

When drawing the default pointy anime style hair, its best to do quick strokes if you want to make the lines straight and all.

The style of hair is totally up to you too, just try to keep the common sense and logic intact and you will be fine

Theres a better hair tutorial here http://www.cablenet.ne.jp/%7ejapanime/tutorial/hairmain.html

Ok next stop will be clothing

    4.Clothing

Now I dont know mutch theory behind clothing so I guoes this tutorial will cover this mater better than me http://www.cablenet.ne.jp/%7ejapanime/tutorial/clothingmain.html

What I can tell you about, are those HAWT! Anime school skirts :3

At first I kept finding it hard to do the folds right, but than I figured out this very simple but yet efective solution.

now asuming you allready know how to draw cloths or fabric flexibility and stuff in general from the link I gave you, draw a simple skirt like this

    now draw sum lines

now you are ready to form the folds out of those lines

    and youre done

there are all kinds of ways to make those folds, heres a few and I bet you could think of many more

and finaly, one big mistake I noticed lots of people doing

the skirt isnt made out of ruber you know, if the girl bends forwerd, the back of the skirt lifts (and make an oportunity for a panty shot depending on the length of the skirt XD) and the front lowers

well thats about all I can say for now, maybe Ill ad something more later. Next is the lineart

    5.Lineart

now first of all, if you do your line art the traditional way, heres something you shouldnt do for the sake of quality of your work.

    That looks so shitty

    GTFO!

Now what you should do is the same thing that people do on the computer, take a new layer (another piece of paper) and trace the final lines and it should look something like this

now you are ready to scan it or ink or color it and than scan it

ok now that you scaned it and you think that you need more quality in your lineart (what you most likely DO need if your lineart looks as shitty as mine LOL) fire up your photoshop or whatever and paste your picture and make a new layer

you will be using this to draw your lines on and shit

Bfore you begin, its allways a good idea to make your skech red or whatever so that you could clearly see what line have you allready done becouse its easy to get comfused if the line and the sketch has the same color.

If you have a tablet, you can draw the lines the traditional way (like I usualy like to do) or if its too troublesome or you dont have a tablet, you could use one of theose fancy line tools (I use them when Im lazy), two of my favorite are the bezier Curve thing, it works like this

Another good tool is the line corection option (I dont know how its caled), it fixes your lines if your hands shake (like mine does) or whatever, you could have a seizure and still be able to draw clean straight lines LOL

I made a video to give you a beter idea of how I do my stuff
    http://youtube.com/watch?v=nUSh-oavAtA
And heres a better quality video
    http://rapidshare.com/files/63294580/video.rar.html

    And its finished!

now all thats left is to color it.

    6.Coloring

Okay, so what Im gonna show you is not what you must do, its more like, what I usualy do. Thres a lot of diferent coloring styles and methods so its up to you to develop your own and I hope my example will give you a better idea of how to do that.

So anyway I start with a new layer under my lineart layer

I usualy begin with the skin becouse its my favorite part, just paint the areas you will color with the color you will be using

    Next, add shadows

Now zoom in and work on the detail, add some darker shadows if nesesery

The tools I use the most are the Pen, Airbrush and Eraser, mostly the pen. If you dont have atablet, I recommend getting one becouse of the presure sensetivity, it would be hard to do al this stuff without it unless you are using the paintbrush, but I never touched it since I stoped coloring with my mouce.

The harder you press the pen, the stronger your lines are and stuff. You can do lots of diferent stuff with the same tool without changing any settings.

So anyway Im now working on the arms.

    And its done

Now zoom in and erase the stuff thats going outside the lines.

    Looks good so far

Now do the same with the hair, again create a new layer undreneath the skin layer.

    The eyes

    And the cloths

when working with dark stuff, its allways a good idea to make the BG dark too, this way the white BG color wont burn your eyes and you will see the details you working on better.

Every color should be done on a new layer, you will need that later when you want to edit the colors and stuff.

So anyway, Ill just skip the rest of the picture becouse the process is the same for all the stuff. Heres a video instead, altho it recorded with errors but you can still see the process.

(the I just uploaded the video to youtube and its still processing and its allready 3pm and my head hurts so Ill add the link tomorrow)

    Heres a better quality video
    http://rapidshare.com/files/63536286..._0002.wmv.html

Well its finished, ypu can also add a BG if you want or something, also if you are not happy with the colors you can allways adjust the Hue, Saturation and Lightness of the color you like them with the color balance and other filters until all colors match each other and stuff.

You can even change all of them and lets say, turn day into night.

Another usefull thing is the gama brightness and contrast level adjustmet tool, it helps bring depth to your image.

    7. Tips and final words

Objective point of view, i'ts strannge how your preseption of your work is so deluded, i remember my first drawings where so shitty but somehow to me it looked so awsome, it's as if when you look at your work, you dont really see it at all, all you see is the image of how it should look in your mind in front of you in the place where the shit that you draw is suposed to be located/the image that you came up with in your mind before drawing it down on the paper, this can turn into a serius obsticle in your way of self improvement an stuff.

You have to be self critical about your works. To me, nothing I draw is good enough, whenever I do a picture, no mater how hard I try, Im allways not satisfied with it, I keep thinking that I could have done better, this is the main force that drives me towords improvement, you can never be too perfect.

Well I cant come up with anythig more to say at the moment so I gues this is it, Ill update it later when I come up with any tips, also feal free to ask about stuff thet wasnt covered here, I hope you find this tutorial in any use.
